The builder measures the yard, checks the slope, and assesses caliche depth and drainage. These factors determine how much excavation is needed and whether the finished surface will play smoothly. Nothing is estimated without an on-site visit first.

A poorly drained base can shift after monsoon rain, creating bumps that throw off ball roll. Correcting it means lifting the turf and reworking the base, a job that costs significantly more than getting the drainage right the first time.

The layout is agreed before excavation begins. A compact yard typically fits one or two cups. Larger spaces can accommodate three or more with varied approach angles. Cup positions are fixed before the turf is rolled so placement is accurate.

It can be a selling point when it is cleanly built and fits the yard proportionally. The value depends on the property and buyer interest. A well-drained, level surface with clean edge framing reads as a finished feature rather than a temporary addition.

Sand infill depth is the primary control. The builder brushes infill to a calibrated depth after laying the turf, then checks slope across the full surface. Shallower infill produces a faster roll; deeper infill slows it down.
